The chivalric universities supplied the intellectual setting for all of westbound Europe. They developed a new accession to nature (Grant, 420).xxi The new religious face allowed for intellectuals and humanists of the time to rightfully pursue their ideas that were in opposition to forwardly animate knowledge that had been universally authentic as creation true. Overall this mop up of the split betwixt Church and State, the power granted to the individual due to the Protestant Reformation, and the defining characteristics of humanism during the Renaissance were the leading factors in the birth of the scientific Revolution.Intellectuals in the seventeenth ascorbic acid soon came to view the world and creation as neer before. Famous figures in history existing at this time continued the already establish tradition, and were able to impart great influence. These figures include, but are not limit to, Galileo, Francis Bacon, Rene Descartes, and Isaac due north. There emerged a shift from thought the abstract, such subjects that previous philosophers had once been dedicated to, to pondering and experimenting the somatogenetic world around them. Prior to this time, Aristotle, Galen and Ptolemy were relied on for foundations concerning the fields of physics, medicine, and astronomy. merely as there were certain individuals and movements that placed the foundations previously, there are also those researchers who were responsible for(p) for the carrying on of life into the Scientific Revolution. It remained for Galileo, however, to gain the mean run theorem to the motion of real resignationing bodies and to dir ect and experiment to determine if bodies really fall with uniform acceleration. thereof began the new science of mechanics and the beginnings of modern physics (Grant, 421).xxii Before Galileo was even able to begin his investigations concerning the previous, it was essential that the events and transformations during the fifteenth to ordinal centuries occurred. More modern discoveries attributed to the seventeenth century and furthermore during the Enlightenment, would have been seriously hold up had this transformation not occurred. People were lastly granted the power, and discover a new found sense of confidence when it came to the pursuit of new knowledge and ideas. If it had not been for this fight, individuals want Galileo would have had this line to do themselves. It is serious to note that the culmination of the Scientific Revolution did originate with the great scientific minds of the 16th and seventeenth centuries, from the likes of Copernicus, Galileo, Kepler, and Newton (Grant, 421).xxiii Furthermore, this historian in particular states that although it is workable to insist that the mature purpose of intertia did not appear before Newton, there can be no denying that Galileo, Pierre Gassendi, and Descartes contend a fictitious character in opponent the Aristotelian concept that everything that moves must be continuously travel by something else and in suggesting instead that once something was moving perchance it might manifestly carry on moving until something else stop it (Henry, 554).xxivSeveral consequential foundations for the study of nature, and in general life at its core, were products of the Renaissance, Protestant Reformation, and ultimately the Scientific Revolution. If it were not for the effort of humanists, and their sense of devotion, the advancements include in the Scientific Revolution may have not come for some time down the road. One of the most important outcomes that is lighten used as a basis today for scientific experimentation is the scientific method. The scientific method is such that, whatsoever the weaknesses of human endeavor, scientific truths bequeath steadily emerge and will come to be recognized and established as a matter of inevitability (Henry, 555).xxv In a way, Henrys definition of the scientific method can be seen as already applying to the transformation that created it.ENDNOTESi Bishop, W. Question about Soviet Union Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Question about Soviet Union - Essay ExampleThesis report In the article Everything you think you know about the collapse of the Soviet Union is wrong Leon Aron states that combination of economic, political and favorable factors accelerated the collapse of the Soviet Union. The common assumptions and misunderstandings upon the collapse of the Soviet Union According to Aron, popular assumptions upon the collapse of the Soviet Union are based upon misunderstandings. For instance, people misunderstood that American yield was behind the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1990s. This is totally wrong because America did non expect rapid collapse of the Soviet Union. Aron (2011)opines that There did not seem to be any other signs of a pre-revolutionary crisis either, including the other traditionally assigned cause of state failure -- external pressure (p.2). To be specific, the leadership of the Communist Party in Soviet Union did not share information on the socio-political and econom ic scenarios. One cannot expect that the decline in gross domestic product growth in 1980s did collapse the Soviet Union because people were conditioned to cope with problems. Besides, the financial problems faced by Soviet Union, related to the unthought-of drop in oil price in 1980s did not harm her economy. There were slight political problems in 9180s, so it cannot be considered as an important factor of the unexpected collapse of the Soviet Union. But the Afghan war exerted a little bit pressure upon the financial background of Soviet Union. Besides, Soviet Union cunningly suppressed the anti-communist uprisings in Hungary, Czechoslovakia and Poland. In short, Soviet Union in 1980s was a global super power with less socio-economic and political problems. Aron (2011) opines that Certainly, there were plenty of structural reasons -- economic, political, social -- why the Soviet Union should have collapsed as it did, yet they fail to explain fully how it happened when it happene d (p.2). The popular assumptions on the collapse of the Soviet Union were based upon misunderstandings and the questions on the collapse are still answerless to an extent. If America is not behind the rapid collapse of Soviet Union, and then, who is the mastermind behind the same? From a different angle of view, one can see that the aspiration of the people in Soviet Union to receive human dignity and individual liberty accelerated the collapse of Soviet Union. The collapse of the Soviet Union and the moral quest of individual freedom The source believes that it is important today to fully understand the collapse of the Soviet Union because more and more people are misjudging the scope of innovative measures adopted by Mikhail Gorbachev (say, perestroika and glasnost). Gorbachev considered that these political polices can renovate the Russian society to morality and liberalization. He very well knew that the Russians were fed up with the single party system in Soviet Union. First of all, Gorbachev decided to seek answer to the moral problems faced by the people. The political policies like perestroika and glasnost, adopted by Gorbachev, were able to solve the social problems in the Russian society. For instance, perestroika restructured the Russian society, and glasnost accelerated openness towards innovation. Now, it is time to take steps to solve the economic problems faced by Russia. The Soviet Model did not help the Russian society to be free from lawlessness and corruption. Instead, it

Summary Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 7

Summary - Essay ExampleThe speech is especially memorable for its remark on firearm suicide, which when taken alongside his posterior suicide, leads to an increased emotional attachment to the text. In the words present in the speech, Foster makes a concise argument regarding the need for students of a capitalist society to be more aware of their surroundings and the generative possibilities that may be in existence behind antagonisms and frustrations encountered everyday. Wallace opens his speech with a parable-like story of two upstart fish. He says, Two young fish are swimming along and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says, aurora boys. Hows the water? The two young fish swim on for a bit. Eventually, one of them looks over at the other and goes, what the hell is water (Wallace & Kenyon College 4). Wallace opens his speech in this way with an intended salute to the standard requirement for most speeches in America, which tend to u se a parable to lead into the main idea. This becomes the theme of the sinless speech. The most important and obvious realities are usually the most difficult to discuss. Wallace discards any mention on the importance of a University degree in move the student forward, preferring to discuss knowledge that can be applied in the world. He goes on to make the point that a University degree does not ring so much on ones capacity to think, but instead it reflects the preference of what one will think. patch this verifyms obvious, Wallace is candid in stressing the order of that which is obvious. Foster moves on to contend that all we know concerning the world is visible and under our noses in the media. He contends that, deep down, even when it does not show on us, we see ourselves as the universes center. The emotions and thoughts of other individuals must be communicated for us to know them, but it is only possible to focus on what is ours since it is the foremost urge and we ad opt it real (Wallace & Kenyon College 4). Foster contends that hope exists if only we realize the hardwired setting that defaults to self-centeredness and make moves in resetting it. He moves that there is a need to shift views and see the world through new lenses while shattering the lens, which sees only the self. Wallace shifts gears while sticking to the original theme, and almost comers across as sympathizing with the graduating students in that they have lesser idea of the rat race that is ahead of them. He discusses a scenario that rarely makes it onto commencement speeches by giving a daily example that includes, in work detail, waking up early, traffic jams and long hour days, shopping for dinner groceries, poor lighting in the stores, traffic jams back home, bed, and all this again (Wallace & Kenyon College 5). While graduates have witnessed this lifestyle with their parents, they have not gone through it personally. The reason that people are stuck into the cycle is due to the universe-center default setting, as well as ones own emotions and needs dictating the priorities from the surroundings. However, again, individuals have the choice to place emphasis on the obvious. Wallace is especially emphatic on the need to shift to the obvious. He points out the day-to-day scenario using a different lens. For instance, why get mad in the traffic jam while everyone else is also unhappy? He also

What do you think is the most significant change in correctional Essay - 2

What do you think is the most significant change in correctional policy in the last nose candy year and why important - Essay ExampleViolators of social norms, rights and freedom are referred to as offenders. The correctional policy is designed to address the resultant booking that emerges when the justice system is jeopardized by individuals or groups of people. One of the significant changes that build been realized in the correctional policy is the embracement of the fact that offenders have rights. In the archaean stages of the implementation of the policy, the rights and freedoms of individuals subjected to the policy were often curtailed and therefore not observed. However, over the years, the fact that the offenders have rights too have been upheld, leading to from time to time reforms that account for the benefit of both the offenders and the community prior to the interests of the policy.Secondly, the policy has evaluated and assessed punishment mechanisms in a bid to r ealize the required corrections. In this attachment, diversity and dynamism in modes and mechanisms of punishments have been adopted over the years. While strict and specific procedures of corrections were employed in the earlier years of the practice of the policy, reforms, rehabilitation, reintegration and restraint are common in the policy today (Roberts & Springer 32). On the same note, the policys diversity has made it possible for its practice to encompass alternative programs that ease thrust in correctional facilities.Sentencing guidelines prior to the desired goals and objectives of the correctional policy have significantly changed over the last 100 years. Human Resource Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words - 1

Human Resource - Essay ExampleThe suggested leadershiphip approach for the guard effort is LMX, in particular for paternalistic or team-based organisational cultures. Leaders are recommended to develop buy in through with(predicate) tapping initial quality relations and the use of evidence to support their arguments. These leaders have ethos, save they must boost logos and pathos appeals to became convincing to employees and management alike. Through their communication and networking efforts, they are believed to create a scintillating event that dope resist harmful or unproductive organisational changes. If changes ordure be attained through strong leadership, a similarly engaging leadership can also result to powerful resistance efforts to changes. Managing resistance to organisational changes has been examined in numerous management, organisational behaviour (OB), and psychology journals. Van Dijk and Van Dick (2009 144) noted from their review of belles-lettres that sev eral management science and OB articles in particular see resistance as an obstacle to organisational development and success. Recommendations are commonly provided to avoid, control and edit the causes of resistance (Cummings and Worley, 2009 165 Kwahk and Kim, 2008). Moreover, a number of studies wholly focused on the change agent (Kwahk and Kim, 2008 van Dam, Oreg and Schyns, 2008). When journals examine employee perspectives, they do so with the purpose of appreciation the causes of resistance, so that they could be identified for resolution later on (Meyer et al., 2007) as if all forms of resistance are problematic and unproductive per se. Scanty research has been through on why employees oppose particular kinds of changes and how they can go about preventing the implementation of unhelpful/damaging change efforts. This essay fills this information gap through exploring existing literature and applying concepts and studies to the process of effectively resisting organisationa l changes that are unbeneficial or harmful to employees or other stakeholder groups. This essay agrees that some organisational changes should be opposed, especially when goals, processes and outcomes are undecipherable and when potential for harmful/unbeneficial consequences exist. It reviews some of the causes of resistance to organisational changes and what employees can do to effectively resist these changes. Its main objectives are 1) to review literature on the common causes of resistance to change and 2) to provide recommendations on how employees can effectively resist change without jeopardising their welfare and employment status. This essay does not aim to manage resistance to changes, but to help students and managers understand the conditions, where resisting changes may be good for the organisation, particularly, when the change goals, processes and outcomes would not be beneficial or would be detrimental to stakeholders. The reviewed literature shows how the manageme nt can effectively respond to employee resistance to changes while other studies and books examined the varied reasons behind resistance to changes. The framework for resistance is presented below (see Figure 1). Nevertheless, these studies do not reveal that some of the possible reasons for resistance are due to lack of clarity and/or benefits and misalignment with personal ethical beliefs

HIS 342 question set 2 Research Proposal Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

HIS 342 question set 2 - Research Proposal ExamplePrimary education, conscription brainpower tax, and military service were to be applied to non-Muslims and Muslims alike. However as Gelvin (2005) notes, for all its good intentions a policy that attempted to establish equality among Ottoman citizens live up to few Muslims or Christians (p. 100). In summary, Osmanlilik ensured that all communities were considered equal in rights and responsibilities regardless of religious background. The Young Turks rebelled against the grand Turk by drawing on sentiment among in the first place the intellegentsia whom they were a part of as well as public mass sentiment of Turks and thereby leading to the successful overthrow of his power. Similar to the Osmanlilik the young Turks were implicated in maintaining the Ottoman Empires control which was rapidly diminishing. Unlike the Osmanlilik, the Young Turks combined a previously unlikely union of reform-minded pluralists, Turkish nationalists an d Western-oriented secularists and indeed anyone who accorded the Sultan political blame for the weakening state of the Empire. The Young Turks had outlined four core reasons for their disgruntlement a) a thirty year increasingly centralized government, b) increasing control of all aspects of life leading to c) the assassination and exile of anyone who opposed the powers of the Sultan, and d) the consciousness that foreign dominance was increasingly a threat to the entire empire and that this would essential lead to the demise of the empire a responsibility that the Young Turks believed to be on the hands of the Sultan (Oktem, 2003). The Young Turks tried to employ Osmanlilik, which saw a revival during this time. This was done to strengthen the Empire however they were unsuccessful in doing so, making Turkish ethnicality dominant and overbearing and thereby straining relations with the ethnic minorities of the region (Oktem, 2003 Gelvin, 2005). 3. Future As discussed in response 1 the fact that the pioneers of Turkish nationalism the Osmanlilik and Young Turks had borrowed ideas from the French Revolutionaries and European Enlightenment illustrates that they were somewhat yearning to transcend religious involvement in the State thereby laying the foundations for the modernization of Turkey in the 20th century. Enlightenment policies rejected the role of religious belief or tradition in society and especially the governing of that society. The rationale for this being that a traditional society in which religion predominated was not unless locked within an archaic framework of thinking but that it would inevitably prejudice the rights of those who were either non-followers or non-religious. As such, and according to Oktem (2003) the modernizing of Turkey really was well flavor upon the founding of the Turkish Republic in 1923 by Officer Mustafa Kemal. Kemal, wishing to reach the level of Enllightenment of contemporary civilization broke away from the Tu rkish/Islamist past. The modernization of Turkey during this time included reforms such as secular/republican forms of government, European legal codes, the emancipation of women and the abolition of Arabic script all of which were looked upon favourably and all of which were previously embraced by Osmamlilik and the Young Turks (Gelvin, 2005 Khater, 2004). 4. 1870sThe world wide economic downturn of the 1870s otherwise known as the Long Depression ran from
